Description: Trunk Storage System Model: Mustang
OEM: Classic Design Concepts, LLC. Model Year: 1999 - 2004
System Supplier: Vantage Technologies Inc. Generic Resin Type: PP
Molder/Processor: Vantage Technologies Inc. Resin Trade Name: SuperLite
Toolmaker: Vantage Technologies Inc. Grade: SL550800.738
Material Supplier: Azdel Other Innovative Features: This process allows low volume parts to be produced with the quality and features associated with compression molding at a vacuum forming price.
Most Innovative Feature: This product went from concept part to production in 3 weeks, which is the standard lead time for a DPM molded part trimmed by a waterjet. Forming Process: DPM, is a patented new process that utilizes uniform force over the total surface of the top and bottom thin shell mold to compression form parts.
Weight Savings: This is a new product with no art to compare against. First Time Process Used? This is the first time for a production after-market trunk componant.  Over the past 6 years it has been used for a variety of other products
Cost Savings: A DPM mold is 50 to 75% less costly than a compression mold. Previous Process: This process replaces a cast solid epoxy or NC cut metal compression mold placed in a hydraulic press for compression molding.
Cost Avoidance: DPM molds do not require a hydraulic press to run production.  A simple liftingdevice is used with minium site requirements. A 75 to 90% savings. Transferable to Other Vehicles: Yes. This technology lends itself to production in new locations where capitol equipment would be needed.
Benefits to Consumer:
Provides customized storage in a seldom used area.
Method Comments:
Azdel SuperLite was molded in a way to create a living hinge.
Innovations/Improvements:
A new cooling system was developed that can reduce cycle times to one minute.
Safety Improvements:
The operation of a lifting device is safer than a hydraulic press.
Environmental Comments:
The product is molded using less energy.
Additional Comments:
This technology is good for low to high volume production and would be ideal for products required to be produced around the world.
Summary:
This product went from concept to production in 3 weeks, providing unique additional storage and functionality to the vehicle.  The patented DPM process uses uniform force over the total surface of the top and bottom thin-shell mold to compression form parts.
