Forming Process: Unique clean two shot injection molding. Reinforcements friction welded to spoiler outer cover. Nominator's Phone: 734 944 5310
First Time Process Used? This is the first time TPO and TPE have been utilized in a spoiler assembly and integrated trim. Nominator's Email: scott.turner@scherer-trier-usa.com
Weight Savings: Estimated 10% weight savings versus higher density materials. Cost Savings: Approximately 40% savings vs. similar integrated spoiler/roof rail system using alternative materials and secondary seals.
Cost Avoidance: Simplified attachment of parts due to fastener architecture and part compliance. Permits less precise finishing of roof sealer operations due to ability to accommodate variation. Reduced warranty due to robust fit and finish.

Summary: This is the first application utilizing TPO / TPE 2-shot injection molding with vertical cubic rotation to produce a spoiler assembly integrated with upper green-house trim. The structural base of the spoiler is friction welded. An estimated 10% weight savings and approximately 40% piece-cost savings were achieved.

Most Innovative Feature: First application utilizing TPO/TPE two shot injection molding for a spoiler assembly integrated with upper green house trim (A Pillar, Roof and D Pillar Moldings).

Other Innovative Features: TPO developed for low thermal expansion, increased scratch and mar resistance and black color match. Structural base of spoiler is friction welded to cover as opposed to typical heat staked or adhesive architecture. CHMSL fasteners hidden from view.
