All Plastic Attachment For A Tail Lamp
Application Description: This is an all plastic attachment between a tail lamp and vehicle. It utilizes an outboard, molded-in hook with two inboard push pins. Single Most Unique Feature: The outboard hook feature for lamp retention and stability.
Process Descriptions: Injection molding. First Usage of Process?: No. However it is the first time it is used in conjunction with the push pin attachment technique.
Formerly Used Process: Metal studs with nuts and/or "J" clips added to housing for screw attachment Tooling Innovations: None
Material Innovations: None Mass Savings: 5 to 8 ounces per vehicle, depending on the size of the tail lamp.
Cost Savings: $1.20/vehicle Cost Avoidance: $720,000/year
Direct Consumer Benefit: Ease of serviceability thereby reducing time and effort for the consumer. Is Technology Transferable?: The application can be translated to other OEM's and/or vehicle lines.
